Edith Stein, canonised in 1998 and now a co-patroness of Europe, is a saint for our times. This book presents her as a companion in the Christian life, who found her courage and fulfilment through daily contact with God in prayer. The first part of the book presents the life of Edith Stein as a Jewish woman, philosopher, Carmelite and martyr at Auschwitz, revealing the ideals and the inner struggles of a truly inspirational person. The second part explains the ideal figures behind Edith's inspiration: Jesus, Mary his mother, Queen Esther, and the Saints of the Carmelite order. There is a short chapter assembling quotations on prayer from her own works as well as numerous quotations in the other parts of the book. Joanna Mosley has written and lectured widely on Edith Stein for a number of years, and is an assistant editor of Mount Carmel.
